Friday, 25 Nov 05.  The Hawks made it two-in-a-row as they defeated the Seven Oaks Raiders 6-3 in Friday night action at Mosienko Arena.  The Raiders struck first when Brett Richards scored at 17:34 of the first but the Hawks struck right back in the last minute and 7 secs of the period with goals by Mark Ralph and a shorthanded effort by Garrett Moore just before the buzzer to take the lead before the end of the period.  In the second the Hawks extended their lead to 4-1 on goals by Brett Gavrailoff and Grant Calhoun.  In the third period, the Raiders took advantage of a power play to cut the lead to 4-2 on a goal by Travis Liewicki and narrowed the margin to 4-3 on a goal by Tanner Best at 8:48 of the period.  But that was the closest they would get as the Hawks scored twice more with Ralph on another shorthanded effort by the Hawks and Garrett notched their second goals of the game in the last five minutes of the game.  Chris Kizuik won his 11th game of the season facing only 15 shots while Trevor Henaire took the loss, turning aside 48 shots.
Sunday, 20 Nov 05.  After suffering their third loss of the season last Friday, the Hawks came into St James with a hope to get back onto the win column and went on to defeat the St James Canucks 6-2.  The Canucks scored first when Brett Montsion scored short-handed midway through the first period but the Hawks got that one back at 16:01 when Brook Robson tied the game at one apiece.  In the second the Hawks took advantage on two power play goals by Grant Calhoun and Mark Ralph and went ahead 4-2 on a goal by newcomer Garrett Moore.  Darcy Favell scored the lone goal for the Canucks.  In the third it was the Hawks again who padded their lead by scoring twice on Calhoun's second of the night and a final goal at 14:15 of the third by Steve Landreville.  Chris Kizuik stopped 16 of 18 shots for his 10th victory of the season while Sean Jamieson took the loss in turning aside 41 of 47 shots fired his way.
Friday, 18 Nov 05.  The Hawks lost another close one this past Friday, losing 3-2 to the visiting Pembina Valley Twisters.  Although the Hawks took the lead in the first period on a goal by Brett Gavrailoff, the Twisters came storming back in the second peppering Andrew Jensen with 20 shots and took a 3-2 lead into the third period.  The second was a penalty filled period and the Twisters took advantage twice on a couple of 4 on 4 opportunities and then scored on the power play late in the second to take the lead and hold on for a hard- fought victory.

Sorrentos Cup Three Stars were: (1) Keith Bially (Twisters); (2) Kevin Thiessen (Twisters; and (3) Brook Robson (Hawks).

Sunday, 13 Nov 05.  In the battle for first place, the Charleswood Hawks came from behind to record a 3-2 Victoria over their cross-town rivals the St Vital Victorias.  The Victorias scored first when Mike Gregg scored apower play goal at 14:44 of the first period.  St Vital went ahead 2-0 early in the second when Marc Desrosiers converted on a pass from Curtis Krul at 5:53 and had an opportunity to break the game wide-open midway through the second period when the Hawks got into penalty trouble and had to kill off three penalties in the span of four minutes including a two-minute span where they were short-handed two players.  Having successfully killed off the penalties seemed to give the Hawks renewed life and they pressed in the Victorias zone outshooting them 16-9 in the second, with Peter Wheatley scoring the first of his two goals on an excellent pass from Brad House to put the Hawks on the board.  Less than four minutes later the Hawks took advantage on a two-man advantage to score a power play goal when Brad House tied the game at two apiece.  The Hawks continued to press in the third period and Peter Wheatley scored the go-ahead goal at 8:05 of the third once again on a wonderful rush by Brad House who faked the shot and passed to Wheatley who had a partially open net to shoot at and he buried it home. The Hawks out-shot the Victorias 31-23 and Chris Kizuik won his 9th of the season while Justin Carloni took the loss, his third of the season.

Sorrentos Cup Three Stars were: (1) Brad House, (2) Chris Kizuik and (3) Peter Wheatley

Tuesday, 8 Nov 05.  The Hawks stopped their two-game losing streak by defeating the St Boniface Riels 7-2 in Tuesday night action at the Eric Coy Arena.  Thwe win temporarily moves back into first place.  The Hawks were led by two goals each by Mark Reimer and Jono Brett while singles went to Steve Landreville, Mark Ralph and Marc Endl.  The Riels scored both of their goals on the power play when Jeff Mehmel and Brett Haiko found the back of the net.  Chris Kizuik faced 22 shots in recording his 8th victory of the year while Kellen Gurniak who played in the first period took the loss for the Riels.  Michael Williams finished the game by playing the 2nd and 3rd period.

Sorrentos Cup Three Stars were; (1) Steve Landreville, (2) Marc Endl and (3) Brett Gavrailoff

On Sunday, 6 Nov 05, the Hawks recorded their second straight loss of the season tonight at Sam Southern Arena falling 2-1 to the Fort Garry/Fort Rouge Twins.  Steve Landreville opened the scoring in the first period and despite the Hawks peppering the Twins goalie Shawn Will with 23 shots in the second period, there was no scoring in that period.  The Twins tied it up early in the third period on a power play goal by Cam Devine and scored the go ahead goal also on a power play goal by Chan Dhaliwal.  Andrew Jensen faced 19 shots and took the loss, his first of the season while Shawn Will took the victory, turning aside 36 shots.  The loss coupled with St Vital's overtime victory over the Railers dropped the Hawks into second place in the MMJHL, one point behind the Vics

Brett Maxwell's overtime goal lifted the Stonewall Jets to a 4-3 win over the Charleswood Hawks.  It's the first loss of the season for the Hawks, although they still manage a single point.

Friday, October 28, 2005 - Hawks snap Vic win streak, take hold of first place.

St Vital Victorias write-up of the game.

The St. Vital Victorias' 10-game winning streak came to an abrupt end Friday night, as they were defeated by the Charleswood Hawks by a score of 6-3. The Hawks, who were also undefeated, now stand at a perfect 11 wins and now hold solo possession of first place in the standings. With the Victorias showing early signs of frustration and a lack of discipline, they found themselves in a hole only 54 seconds into the contest, as they would have to kill a four-minute Hawk powerplay. Charleswood would capitalize on the opportunity, as they scored at the 2:06 mark to open the scoring. At the mid-way mark of the period, Charleswood would make it 2-0, as Grant Calhoun netted his second marker of the evening. Calhoun would prove to be the Vic killer of the night, as the smooth-skating defenceman scored a hat trick to lead his club to victory. St. Vital would get on the board with under three minutes remaining in the period, as Kyle Harden would find the back of the net. With only one second left, however, Charleswood would score a disputed powerplay goal to make it 3-1. Much discussion ensued on whether the clock had expired, but, after a short stoppage, the goal would stand. In the second, St. Vital had it's best period, as Tim Armour would score early in the middle frame, and Harden would add his second later in the period to tie the game at 3-3.   The Hawks would regain the lead at the 12:51 mark, however, as they would again score with the man advantage. In the third period, St. Vital did not manage to muster much offense, as Charleswood would go on to score two more times to win the period, and ultimately the game. In the end, the Victorias' inability to stay out of the penalty box would prove costly. The Hawks were 3 for 9 on the PP, while St. Vital was 0 for 4 with the man advantage. Charleswood out shot St. Vital 34-28 on the night, with Chris Kizuik recording the win, while Justin Carloni registered the loss. For photos of the game as taken by Vics staff, click here.
