7-0 Hawks

Minor Hockey Night saw hundreds of kids at the Coy decked out in their team jerseys and running around like their Halloween candy was still kicking in. The gauntlet from the dressing room to the ice was a collective shrieking tunnel of youngsters giving their best encouragement and high-fives to the ice-bound Hawks. It was fun to witness and you could see the bemusement and regard in all the Hawks’ faces. That kind of adoration is a fleeting moment so the players all looked very proud and savoured that moment of celebrity worship.

It reflected very favourably on the ice, too. Logan Danis (#21) was a man on a mission and potted two in the 1st. Great forechecking saw that lead extended in the 2nd to 3-0 just as Charleswood finished killing a penalty. Then, 11:21 in, Riley Dudych (#11) got pummeled from behind and the Rouge-Twin was assessed a boarding major. Tazio Cianflone (#4) came to Dudych’s aid and was given a roughing minor but Tazio’s spirited support was duly noted by his team mates and the Hawks’ dominance conInued voraciously.

Cam McDonald (#19) made a lovely hold-and-look pass to Danis and he bulged the twine for his hat trick. Congrats, Logan!

14:51 into the 3rd Elliott Lewis (#8) and Jason Ruff (#22) displayed some patient puck movement on their opponent’s blue line on the PP and fed a pass to Danis who found Ryland Hueging (#12) who buried the biscuit and the slaughter continued. (5-0)

17:01 into the 3rd, Danis found Ruff who made a nice pass to Hueging who potted his second of the game for a 6-0 lead.

Then, the icing on the cake came at 19:50 of the 3rd when Ben Zander (#18) found a rebound from McDonald’s shot and lit the lamp for the seventh time for the Hawks and Fort Garry had but another ten seconds to lick their wounds and beat a hasty retreat for the team bus.

Zack Meadows (#30) was tested a few times on a few Twins’ offensive outbursts but Zack was not going to allow anything by and earned another shut-out with his balanced, positional play. Congrats on the goose-egg, Zack.

Charleswood are on the ‘road’ for the next fortnight and do not return home until Nov. 17. Best of luck during your ‘road-trip’ and we look forward to seeing more dazzling magic at The Coy in two weeks.

Great to see all the kids out as they clambered onto the ice for a huge team/fan photo at game’s end. Perhaps, one day in the near future, the little ones will be wearing red and receiving the same respect and support they gave today’s Hawks in the corridor. Fun stuff on a Friday night.
